Jim Arnold
Jim Arnold is a 12-year of the NFL,
formerly with the Detroit Lions. Jim, a two-time Pro-Bowler
for the Lions, participated in the All-Star classic
in back-to-back seasons (1987-8. Jim re-wrote the
Pro-Bowl punting record in 1988 with a 49.6 gross
punting average, led the NFC in punting in 1988 with
a 42.4 yard average while also setting an NFL record
with a 39.6 net punting average.
Arnold was the first punter selected in the 1983 draft
and signed with the Lions as a free agent in 1986.
In 1993 enjoyed his best-ever season in Detroit with
an NFC-high 44.5 yard average and his highest as a
Lion.
He earned various All-League or All-Conference
honors: first-team All NFC by UPI, second-team All-Pro
by the AP, NFL All-Pro by the Football Writers Association,
All-NFL mention by Pro Football Weekly, and World
Almanac's All-Pro first team.
In 1999, Jim Arnold was nominated
for induction into the Professional Football Hall
of Fame (his first year eligible).
A Locker room comedian, Jim took
his routine to the public at Mark Ridley's Comedy
Castle, and the episode was filmed by CBS' NFL Today.
